Business: Traditional earthenware and ceramics craftswoman Region: Nabeul It is certainly not by pure chance that Dalila is an earthenware and ceramics craftswoman as she was born and still lives in Nabeul, a town in the north of Tunisia which is considered to be the birthplace of Tunisian traditional earthenware and ceramics. Dalila began by working for several years in a factory before she received her first loan from enda inter-arabe and created her own small pottery business: "My first loan of 500 TND enabled me to buy raw earthenware which I decorated to my own taste."
At first, Dalila experienced problems relating to creativity and marketing. However, over the years she has worked hard to substantially improve both the quality and the design of the articles in order to better meet customers’ preferences and expectations. She is currently looking to expand her network of foreign customers. She has decided to sign up for training sessions on design so she can create goods to export that can face the competition of similar, high quality products.
Her next goal is to buy her own oven that will make her work easier and reduce sub-contracting costs. Up till now, she has borrowed a total of 4,000 TND. Her last micro-credit helped her design and produce articles to exhibit at the 1st trade fair dedicated to female micro-entrepreneurs in Strasbourg, France. |
