Business: Traditional weaver Region: Tozeur Hadhemi started weaving when she was very young. By the age of 16, she already knew how to process and thread wool and how to make her own carpets and margoums (a sort of traditional tapestry) in any size that might interest potential customers. Five years ago, she set up a traditional weaving workshop with the help of the Tunisian government. She now employs and trains up to 20 young girls in her workshop who also hope to become micro-entrepreneurs. She spends her days training, coaching, supervising and advising them on how to further improve their weaving skills. Despite that, she still finds some time every evening to sit behind her loom and let her imagination and inspiration run free.
Hadhemi became a customer of enda inter-arabe in 2006 and she has since obtained loans totaling 2,500 TND. "Particularly, this money helps me quickly buy more raw materials if I unexpectedly run out of stock because with the proximity of enda-ia and the simplicity and rapidity of their procedures, I can take out a loan when I really need it most," she says. |
