Business: Traditional weaver Region : Tozeur Chefia was born in Le Kef, in northwest Tunisia, where she spent her early years as a child, before moving with her parents to their native town of Tozeur, in the south. She only attended primary school, but that however, did not stop her from expressing her creativity through the art of weaving. In the very early stages, she learnt the traditional weaving techniques. She first started by learning how to weave and little by little, she started creating her own designs where warm colours of sand, sun and wide expanses of land burst out in a deep call from nature.
“The true challenge, she says, is to throw myself into an entrepreneurial activity and to organise myself to make my dreams come true: to be at the head of a traditional weaving micro-enterprise that enables young girls to express themselves creatively and that opens new doors for them. Micro-credit provides an opportunity for me to start turning part of my dreams into reality." Chefia has now obtained her second loan, making a total of 1,500 TND in loans. Every day, she courageously confronts all sorts of obstacles on her road to success. |
